[Closed] Call for Action: PyeongChang 2018 – Vision & Strategy

[Update March 9, 2017] PyeongChang 2018 has removed the user comment area. This is after deleting dozens of our messages protesting the Korea’s horrible cruelty. Thank you everyone who participated and spoke out for the poor Korean dogs and cats.

PyeongChang, in South Korea, is promoting their 2018 Winter Olympics, by stating how ‘connected’ this event will make everyone involved feel, for example:

“People connected: everyone enjoys the Olympics regardless of age and nationality”

“Peace connected: the Olympic spirit promotes peace worldwide”

But who is not standing in horror at the thought of ‘connecting’ with a country that, through apathy and inaction, effectively condones the evils of the dog and cat meat trades?

Who will wish to visit this country for the Olympics, or even want to watch those events from afar, “in peace” happily enjoying the “Korean hospitality” when we are wondering what misery is being endured beyond the walls of these venues?

Please let South Korea know that the surest way to connect with all people within their own country – and everyone from around the world – would be to permanently end the dog and cat meat trades -now – before this prestigious event takes place. Then their emblem which means Harmony of Heaven, Earth and Man” will become more than just a symbol. Click HERE to post your message on their page.

You can do this by scrolling down to the bottom of their page, for the “Reply” section where you can post your message, after logging in via Facebook, Twitter or Google.

Click HERE to post your message on their Korean page.

Suggested message:

South Korea, you state that these games connect all people regardless of age and nationality, and opens up new opportunities for athletes and citizens. Your goal to connect all people and provide a sustainable legacy can be better achieved by permanently ending the dog/cat meat trade. Your national branding and goals for the Olympic Games in your nation can only be darkened by the aberrant trade!

This is YOUR opportunity to do something strong and powerful while showing yourself to be a progressive nation. With over 100 countries competing in these games, your aim to be a landmark sporting event and leave a sustainable legacy can be achieved. It will also demonstrate that you are a country whose products and brand names the international community would be keen to purchase and promote.

Animals all over the world are abused, but most countries have laws in place for the welfare of animals. I will boycott anything from any country that allows this to go on. And I will also never travel on vacation to any of these destinations. I can’t believe such ignorance exists in the 21st century. What a disgrace to host Olympic games in a country that commits some of the worst atrocities on dogs and cats – the torture, the slaughtering of ALL these INNOCENT animals. These horrifying practices, which are increasingly mediatized, MUST END. This is not about having different customs but constitutes plain, deliberate TORTURE on these animals. I urge the government to take action and outlaw these inhumane, despicable and evil practices. Until then, your country is not deserving of being the site where hundreds of elite athletes will converge to celebrate sportsmanship and humanity.

I’m so ashamed to know this exists in your country. If you treat your animals, this way, I’m afraid to know how you treat your woman and children. Please make this stop. No living creature deserves to be beaten boiled alive and tortured for your appetite.

Let’s be rational, compassionate and NOT live in the dark ages — you are a progressive & modern country with a wonderful history with the exception of this horrific, sadistic, cruel & unconscionable dog/cat meat industry — SHUT IT DOWN !
