Petition Addressed to the UNFAO: The dog meat trade in Asia is an unregulated industry imposing dangerous health risks.

Campaign created by Susan Song.

We are urging the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization(UNFAO) to join us in the fight to end the dog meat trade in Asia. The ugly truth is that dog tonics and soup are harvested and created in an unregulated industry in the most disgusting and unsanitary conditions. From start to finish the treatment of the dogs is incredibly cruel and inhumane.

We are reaching out to the UNFAO to help us bring an end to the dog meat trade in South Korea.

Two search results on Naver (the most popular search engine in Korea) – the first one was for so-called “Health Food Centers” which commonly sell dog elixirs and cat elixirs (also known as dog soju and cat soju); and the second one was for “dog meat restaurants” reveals the sickening scale of South Korea’s dog meat demand: 12,979 Health Food Centers; and 4,024 restaurants in Korea.

Even if half of these ‘Health’ Food Centers and restaurants serve dog and cat ‘ingredients’ in one form or another, imagine how many dog/cat slaughterhouses must be present in Korea to supply these outlets.

There are laws in South Korea against selling dogs and cats for consumption, yet these laws are blatantly ignored.

Petition addressed to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization: The dog meat trade in Asia is an unregulated industry imposing dangerous health risks.

Dear The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization:

We are reaching out to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations help put an end to the dog meat trade in Asia. As an international organization dedicated to the eradication of hunger and to the proper use of natural resources to maintain sustainable food sources, you have the ability to use your organization and influence to bring awareness to this subject.

In South Korea alone, 2.5 million dogs are slaughtered and consumed each year. The farming and methods of slaughter are unregulated, and this allows the meat trade industry to practice in an entirely uncontrolled environment. The methods utilized in this poorly regulated industry are barbaric, and the conditions under which these animals are kept are horrendous.

The health risks to humans are all too real. By the time these dogs are slaughtered, they are so sick with untreated broken bones, infections and malnutrition, that anyone who has not themselves witnessed the documentaries of this practice has no idea that the meat that is going into their “health soup” has been harvested in the most disgusting and unsanitary fashion.

The slaughter methods themselves are nothing short of sadistic and inhumane. They promote the misguided belief that the adrenaline release which occurs at death improves the quality of the meat, so that the dogs are purposefully tortured and made to experience extreme fear and suffering at slaughter. This often takes the form of prolonged beatings while being hanged, and smaller dogs and cats are boiled alive to make “tonics” which are purported to treat ailments such as rheumatism.

It has been well-documented that the treatment of these dogs is unimaginably cruel and inhumane. From birth to death they are kept in cramped cages raised off of the ground, so that their feet never touch the ground their entire lives. They are fed food wastes in extremely unsanitary conditions. Their treatment during transport to slaughter is horrific. They are packed so tightly into cages like stuffed animals that many die from being crushed by the weight of the other dogs. They must endure extreme heat and cold, and are given no water during the days-long trek, so that many die of dehydration.
We are asking you to help bring awareness and a solution to this problem.

An online petition calling for your support in ending the horrendous South Korean dog and cat meat cruelty is in progress: https://www.change.org/p/united-nations-food-and-agriculture-organization-unfao-the-dog-meat-trade-in-asia-is-unregulated-industry-imposing-dangerous-health-risks

I am also horrified to see that so modern country like South Korea can allow that so barbaric so-called “traditions” can still last in this country !!! how they can manage their international image with this horrendous trade ? are they so unsensible ? or they don’t care with their image as well as the animal’s life !!! after seeing certains footages and after being aware about what man can do to the animal, I love more and more the animal !!! and more !!!! this can be dangerous to the people !!!! and nobody cares, of course I mean the politics !!! when it will end ? !!! it must end as quickly as possible in order we can look at us in the mirror without shame !!!

Please stop murdering these loving beings. They have a soul, they have personality and have feelings as humans. They show fear, depression, joy, loyalty, and are obedient. They know what is happening to them when already sick and traumatized, It is inhumane to murder them for food. God’s word says in the Bible in Leviticus 11:27 animals with four legs with paws are unclean and are NOT for consumption. Please! In Jesus name stop this horrific torture and murder!
