We are very pleased to receive such a positive response from the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) regarding our petition “ WSAVA: Speak Out Against The Dog and Cat Meat Trade in South Korea.”

Dr Walt Ingwersen, the President of the WSAVA, wrote the following:

Response from WSAVA 033017

Dr. Ingwersen’s response is very encouraging, in that he states that “members of our Animal Wellness and Welfare Committee (AWWC) are discussing how we could most usefully support positive change with regard to the treatment of animals in the dog and cat meat trade in Asia.” He also informed us that they are “developing the world’s first Global Welfare Guidelines for Companion Animals, which will be launched at WSAVA World Congress in 2018”.

We look forward to hearing from Dr. Ingwersen regarding how WSAVA can help to put an end to the dog and cat meat trade in Asia and improve the welfare of these animals.

We sent thank you email to Dr. Ingwersen and WSAVA for responding to our concern. Below is email we sent him:

Dr Walt Ingwersen
President, WSAVA

Dear Dr. Ingwersen,

Thank you for your response to our recent petition, “World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA): Speak Out Against the Dog and Cat Meat Trade in South Korea.”

We are very excited to learn that the members of WSAVA’s Animal Wellness and Welfare Committee (AWWC) are discussing how WSAVA could most effectively support positive change in the treatment of animals in the dog and cat meat trade in Asia. Also, we are excited about the world’s first Global Welfare Guidelines for Companion Animals, which AWWC is currently drafting.

It is very important to raise public awareness about this deplorable trade. The veterinary medical community’s opinion and insight into this issue will have an important impact. You are the guardians of the health and welfare of companion animals, and your support is immeasurable. Every step forward is another step in the direction of freeing these poor animals from their suffering.

Please help us bring this awareness to your member associations, veterinarians and veterinary professionals.

Sincerely,

KoreanDogs.org
