Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)

If we do our part, a path will open.

When a massive wildfire swept through the Gyeongbuk Province region, CARE (Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth) rushed to the scene despite severe financial hardship and not a single cent in reserve. We had no choice—we have continued our rescue work even when funds were scarce. Just in the 2022 Uljin wildfire, we rescued nearly 200 animals, poured resources into treatment, and continue caring for many of them today.

So, once again, we could not help but worry about the cost of treating animals with severe burns. Burn treatment, especially for multiple animals, is incredibly expensive. But the damage was too severe to hesitate. Without a second thought, CARE began rescue operations.

And then—a miracle.

Thanks to the kind suggestion of a compassionate citizen, Eum Animal Medical Center offered to provide complete treatment sponsorship for seven of our burn-injured animals at their Pohang, Cheongju, and Dongtan branches. Like a gift from the heavens, the animals were admitted and began receiving expert, heartfelt care.

💛 Stories of Survival and Healing

▶️ Cheolsu, now at the Pohang branch, lies calmly in the arms of caregivers, receiving IV fluids. His face bears a burn mark that looks like round glasses—but it’s okay. Once he heals, he’ll be even more adorable.

▶️ Younghee has slowly opened her heart to people. She now takes snacks gently from their hands. Her wounds require twice-daily dressing—a painful process for animals and a labor of love for caregivers.

▶️ Coco, a sweet poodle now at the Dongtan branch, is regaining her vision. Though she carries a V-shaped scar on her face, she was lucky to survive when many of her shelter companions perished in the flames. All she needs now is a loving family to accept her, scars and all.

▶️ Andongi, once fearful and reactive, now offers his entire body for care. He understands now—these people are here to help him. He even plays with other dogs in the treatment room, which often becomes a playground for healing both body and spirit.
At the Cheongju branch, we have Daebeomi and Ppogeuli.

▶️ Daebeomi suffered extensive burns to his paws, face, eyes, and body. He endured ten days of pain with his friend Daegyeoni by his side, offering comfort and companionship. At first, Daebeomi lashed out in pain, but thanks to the gentle, consistent love of his caregivers, he’s slowly opening his heart. Staff hand-feed him and sit barefoot beside him, soothing him with their presence.

▶️ Ppogeuli was found hiding in a cave, badly burned. Despite the pain, she’s fully surrendered herself to her caregivers, trusting them to help her heal.

▶️ Ttolttoli, a Jindo dog, was rescued from a shelter that was completely destroyed in the fire. She is now also receiving treatment at the Cheongju branch.

So far, CARE has rescued 42 animals from this recent wildfire. Eum Animal Medical Center is generously sponsoring the treatment of seven of them.

우리가 노력하면 길은 열립니다.

큰불이 경북지역을 휩쓸 때 케어는 고민을 하며 현장으로 달려 갔습니다.
케어는 적립된 현금 하나 없이 어려운 재정 속에 구호활동을 지속하기 때문이었습니다.
2022년 울진 대형 산불 때만 200명 가까운 동물들을 구조하며 막대한 치료비가 들어갔고, 또 남은 아이들을 지금까지 돌보고 있기 때문입니다.
또다시 화상이 심한 아이들의 치료비를 걱정하지 않을 수 없었습니다.
집단의 화상치료는 감당하기 어려운 비용이 들기 때문이었습니다.
그러나 고민도 사치일만큼 동물들의 피해는 심각했고 우리는 주저없이 동물들을 일단 구조부터 했습니다.
그때 너무나 감사하게도 한 시민의 제안으로 청주 이음동물의료센터 각 지점 (포항, 청주, 동탄) 에서 화상 아이들 6명을 전액 후원치료 해주시겠다고 회답해 주셨습니다.
하늘이 준 선물처럼, 화상이 심한 아이들은 각 병원으로 입원되어 정성어린 치료를 받고 있습니다.

▶️포항점으로 간 철수는 마치 엄마 품처럼 푹 안겨 링겔을 맞습니다.
철수는 얼굴에 동그란 안경을 쓴 것 같은 상처가 남았습니다.
괜찮습니다. 다 나으면 오히려 아주 귀여운 얼굴이 될 거예요.
▶️영희는 맛있는 간식을 입으로 받아먹을 정도로 사람에 대한 경계를 풀었습니다.
매일 매일 드레싱을 2번씩 해야 합니다.
화상 상처 치료가 동물에게는 가장 아픈 치료이고, 사람에게는 가장 수고로운 치료라 하지요.
▶️동탄점으로 간 코코는 시력을 회복하고 있습니다. 예쁜 푸들 종의 코코는 얼굴에 그만 V자 표시가 선명하게 상처로 남아버렸지만 함께 살던 친구들처럼 불타 죽지 않아 다행입니다.
코코의 상처마저 어루만져 줄 좋은 가족을 찾으면 되니까요.
▶️낯선 사람을 물었다는 안동이는 온몸을 내 줄 정도로 변화했습니다.
자신을 치료해 주는 분들이라는 것을 알게 된 것이겠지요.
게다가 병원 치료실에서 다른 환견들과 방바닥 놀이를 하네요
병원 치료실은 치료 도중 아이들의 놀이터가 되기도 합니다.
아픈 몸뿐 아니라 마음까지 회복되는 공간입니다.
다음은 청주점의 대범이와 뽀글이입니다.
발바닥이 새카맣게 타 버린 대범이, 눈과 얼굴, 온 몸이 화상입니다.
대견이가 대범이 옆에서 꼬옥 몸을 붙이고 지켜 주어 10일간의 고통을 버틸 수 있었던 대범이….
▶️대범이는 너무 고통스러운 나머지 치료 도중 입질이 있었지만 끊임없는 정서으로 이제 마음을 내어 주고 있습니다.
선생님들은 손바닥으로 먹이를 주고 신발을 벗고 한 공간에 몸으로 마음으로 어루만져 주고 계십니다.
▶️뽀글이는 화상을 입고 굴 속에 숨어있던 아이입니다.
아픈 화상의 치료에도 불구하고 온몸을 내어주고 있어요.
▶️진도 똘똘이도 화재로 전소된 보호소의 아이입니다.
