Daegu, South Korea, Shut down the illegal dog meat farms, slaughterhouses and markets.

Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-Jin

If you want to help fight the grisly South Korean dog and cat meat trade and make a difference in South Korea, here are a few quick actions you can take that could save millions of dogs and cats each year.

In Daegu, there are countless dog farms, slaughterhouses, markets and restaurants where the dogs, who are tortured their entire lives, end up being slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging or beating; and then thrown into boiling water – sometimes while they are still alive. In many places, dogs are being killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs; and this takes place in broad daylight. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry, and are subjected to the same cruelty.

A Search Engine reveals the sickening scale of Daegu’s dog meat demand.

Two search results on Naver (the most popular search engine in Korea) – the first one was for so-called “Health Food Shops” which commonly sell dog elixirs and cat elixirs (also known as dog soju and cat soju); and the second one was for “dog meat restaurants”: 530 Health Food Shops; and 86 restaurants in and around Daegu.

Even if half of these ‘Health’ Food Shops and restaurants serve dog and cat ‘ingredients’ in one form or another, just imagine how many dog/cat slaughterhouses must be present in and around Daegu in order to supply all of these outlets.

There are laws in South Korea against selling dogs and cats for consumption yet these laws are blatantly ignored.

Das quälen von Tieren muss man fast schon als asiatische Krankheit bezeichnen. Obwohl es auch in allen anderen Ländern Grausamkeiten durch Menschen an anderen Tieren gibt, ist es in Asien besonders drastisch.

For thousands of years man has bred dogs to be man’s loyal companion. What kind of barbaric ignorant people would do this to them? I or my family will not purchase anything made in South Korea or China as in Kia, Hyundai, LG, Samsung and others as long as dogs are treated in this way. If it’s made in an evil backward dog eating country don’t buy it. There are plenty of other more civilized nations.

This is cruel & ignorant behavior. All dog markets need to close and the countries that allow this horrendous activity to flourish should be boycotted.

This is a sick and disgusting tradition that reflects poorly on South Korea. It must end. Dogs are our best friends not our meals. Please stop this barbaric activity.

This must stop! Remember that CATS are also being brutally tortured (including cooking them alive in pressure cookers and other horrible acts). Please include a plea for the CATS in your letter to Korean officials and in your petitions! PLEASE!
