Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)

CARE discovered an abandoned house in Hwaseong—uninhabitable, filled with trash, yet home to several dogs struggling to survive.

The interior was severely damaged, full of rotting waste and debris. The dogs had no shelter, warmth, or protection from the weather. Their condition raised immediate concerns about both neglect and the well-being of the owners.

The couple living there had recently lost custody of their 7-year-old daughter due to unsafe living conditions. The mother, overwhelmed by grief and already facing significant personal and household challenges, began bringing home stray dogs in an attempt to cope. However, the environment was unsafe for both the family and the animals. The dogs were kept on short ropes, exposed to extreme temperatures, unsanitary conditions, and signs of mistreatment.

When CARE’s rescue team entered, the dogs showed clear signs of distress. CARE requested government intervention immediately and began working with the couple to surrender the animals. After initial resistance, the couple agreed.

The dogs were removed from the property, and two young dogs who showed openness to human contact were taken directly into CARE’s protection for treatment.

Rescue requests continue to increase, while the costs of food, medical care, and shelter stretch CARE’s resources. Still, CARE remains committed to responding wherever animals are in danger.

CARE is asking for public support to ensure these dogs—and others like them—receive the care they need and never return to similar conditions.

CARE thanks Hwaseong City Hall for its cooperation. Continued psychological support and environmental improvements will be essential to prevent further harm.

어린 딸을 떠나보낸 부부, 딸 대신 개들을 데려와 방치하다

집 안은 숨이 막히는 악취와 쓰레기로 가득했습니다. 이곳에서 부부와 개들이 함께 살고 있었습니다.
그런데 그들의 7살 딸은 법원의 판단으로 더 이상 이곳에 머물 수 없었습니다. 아이를 보호하기 위해 아동보호시설로 보내야 했습니다.

아이를 잃은 어머니는 우울증에 깊이 빠져 있었습니다.
장애를 가진 아내, 폭력과 알코올 중독에 시달리는 남편, 그리고 접근금지 명령조차 무력화된 무너진 가정.
그녀는 딸의 빈자리를 견디지 못해, 대신 길에서 만난 개들을 하나둘 집으로 끌어들였습니다.
그러나 그곳은 보호소가 아닌 감옥이었습니다.
먹이도, 지붕도, 온기도 없이 개들은 짧은 밧줄에 묶인 채 폭염과 폭우, 그리고 폭력의 흔적 속에 그저 떨며 하루를 버티고 있었습니다.
케어의 구조대가 도착했습니다.
차가워지는 날씨에 케어 활동가들은 현장으로 들어갔습니다. 문을 열자, 피할 곳조차 없는 개들이 바라보고 있었습니다.
짖거나 데려가 달라고 울거나..쓰레기 속에서 개들은 아무렇게나 방치되고 있었습니다
우리는 모두 격리조치를 요청했고, 부부에게 포기의 설득을 시작했습니다.
완강하게 버티던 부부는 끝내 “ 더 이상 법원의 명령을 받을 수는 없다”는 말과 함께 아이들을 내어놓았습니다.
그 순간, 개들은 마치 인질에서 풀려난 듯 조심스럽게 세상 밖으로 걸어나왔습니다.
그중 사람을 경계하지 않던 두 어린 개는 케어가 직접 보호하고 치료하기로 했습니다.
❗️그러나, 케어는 지금 한계에 다다랐습니다.
지금 이 순간에도 구조 요청은 멈추지 않지만, 우리의 손은 점점 묶여가고 있습니다.
사료비, 치료비, 보호비…모든 것이 한계선에 다다랐습니다.
그래도 이 두 아이만큼은, “춥다”며 품을 파고들던 그 체온만큼은 놓을 수 없었습니다.
망설이다 망설이다 안고 나왔습니다.
여러분의 손길이 필요합니다.
