No more dog slaughter in Seoul?

Photo: Seoul Gyeongdong Dog Meat Market, South Korea. These dogs were not rescued.

I had received questions from people asking if the news about Seoul shutting down all of their dog slaughterhouses is true. Click HERE to learn more about this.

I would not be surprised if there are many more dog slaughterhouses still operating in Seoul. Internet search for “dog meat soup in Seoul” results in hundreds of dog meat restaurants. Click HERE to see the search result.

If you include the so-called “Health Food Shops”(“Geongangwon” in Korean) which commonly sell dog and/or cat products, the prolific number of these establishments is over thousand. Click HERE to see the search result.

So, are we to believe that the dog meat used in their restaurants/shops are not from dogs slaughtered within the city of Seoul? I would need proof to believe that. Also, closing down a few dog slaughterhouses while serving dog and cat in these hundreds of restaurants in Seoul, is only a drop in the bucket. I applaud Mayor Park’s actions, but he needs to be more forthcoming about the magnitude of Seoul’s dog meat industry and begin cracking down on the restaurants and shops that sell dog and cat products.

Please take actions to put pressure on the Seoul Metropolitan City to shut down all restaurants and shops that sells dog and cat meat products.
