Response from Australian Minister for Agriculture the Hon. Barnaby Joyce MP
We received a reply on 24th March 2016 for our petition letter from the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Barnaby Joyce. Mr Joyce is also the Minister for Agriculture & Water Resources. Our letter was sent by one of our Australian campaigners.
Although this is not the reply we were hoping for, we do appreciate the Australian government’s response.
Mr Joyce makes the point that the Australian government is recognised as a world leader in animal welfare. However, international law dictates that the Australian Government cannot dictate animal welfare standards adopted in other countries. But they CAN activate the various forms of support at their disposal to put pressure on Korea to stop this barbaric trade.
Let’s keep the pressure up by writing and urging Mr Joyce, as well as other government representatives around the world to put an end to this cruel industry.
