Amidst the Inferno: Junior Dogs Found and Rescued, Clinging to Each Other🐾🐾
As of April 3, 2025, the devastating wildfires in southeastern South Korea have been fully contained, after igniting on March 21 and claiming at least 31 lives while destroying thousands of homes, agricultural facilities, and other structures. Amid the destruction, countless dogs—chained, caged, and helpless—were left behind, burning alive as their human companions fled to safety. This horrific abandonment represents a cruel betrayal of the animals’ unwavering loyalty, highlighting a profound moral failure. This tragedy calls for immediate change, urging South Korea to prioritize the humane treatment of animals and ensure such devastating events are prevented in the future.
Below is a message from Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE). CARE is on the front lines, working relentlessly to rescue dogs caught in the aftermath of these horrific fires. Their efforts are a beacon of hope in this tragedy. Please consider making a donation to support CARE’s vital work. Your generosity will directly enable them to save more lives, provide essential medical care to suffering animals, and fight for lasting change to end such cruelty.
Even burned and blinded by the wildfire, the brother remained steadfastly by his side. This unbreakable bond was crucial in helping the junior dogs survive the fire’s cruelty.
This is the tragic story of junior dogs who escaped a burning dog farm and, inseparable, endured ten days near death from starvation.
“You’ll be okay, baby. I’m sorry, you’ll be okay. Let’s go now.”
“Yeah… you were relying on each other…”
When CARE found them, the skeletal junior dogs were shivering, their bodies intertwined. One was facially unrecognizable due to horrific burns, while the other, blinded by burns but less physically harmed, stayed resolutely by his side. For ten days following their escape from the burning farm, they had starved, seeking support against trees. Hunger and burns had brought them to the edge of survival.
CARE’s arrival offered salvation. Daegyeon, less severely burned, could have fled but remained with Daebom, protectively covering his burned brother.
Daebom, robbed of his sight by the fire, owed his survival to Daegyeon’s unwavering loyalty. CARE rescued them both, along with a young pup found alive in a cage within the ruins – a pup who would have faced the horrific fate of being slaughtered for meat without intervention. They were survivors of a dog farm where roughly 700 other caged dogs burned to death.
CARE urgently transported the three severely burned dogs to Cheongju and Seoul for critical, months-long specialized care. Yieum Animal Hospital in Cheongju will generously sponsor Daebom’s extensive burn treatment. Daegyeon and the pup will be cared for by CARE.
As large mixed-breed dogs, their adoption will present challenges, but CARE is dedicated to their full recovery and well-being. Please support these incredible survivors by becoming a regular sponsor. They are a testament to resilience amidst the tragedy of a dog farm where 700 others perished in the fire, unable to escape. CARE’s persistent efforts on the ground ensured these junior dogs found a path to a new life. For 25 years, CARE’s integrity in using donations has been recognized by South Korea’s Ministry of Justice, as well as its citizens and communities.
💗🐾🙏 In addition to these recent rescues, CARE provides a sanctuary for 800 dogs at their shelters, all rescued from the horrors of dog meat farms and puppy mills. Your donation will support CARE’s vital mission to end the dog meat trade and animal cruelty in South Korea, and will directly assist with the medical care, fostering, and overseas adoption of these deserving dogs.

💗 To donate to Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE), the best option is to contribute directly to them. However, we have set up a GoFundMe page for those who prefer an alternative where you can donate and share with your friends and family. Rest assured, 100% of the funds raised on GoFundMe will be donated to CARE. CARE’s Post in Korean:
