🚨 Call for Action: She Burned Alive Still Tethered—Change the Law, Save Lives

Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)

💔 Yeongdeok, Who Lost His Little Sister to a Wildfire

The wildfire that began in Uiseong eventually spread to Yeongdeok. Flames engulfed the area, reaching the home where Yeongdeok lived. As the fire closed in, his leash melted and snapped, allowing him to escape unharmed.

But his little sister wasn’t so lucky. Her leash, made of steel, didn’t break. Her body caught fire. She fought desperately, pulling at the leash, trying to escape until the very end. Half of her small body was scorched black before she finally collapsed. By the time CARE arrived, Yeongdeok’s sister had already drawn her last breath.

CARE held Yeongdeok in their arms—his sister, who looked just like him, was the same age and had the same sweet face, but now gone. In memory of her tragic passing, CARE is now searching for a loving home for Yeongdeok so that he can live twice as happily, for both himself and the sister he lost.

Yeongdeok is perfect in every way. With a gentle personality and a clean bill of health, he is irresistibly charming—an affectionate, flawless little soul. Though still healing from the trauma, he is slowly rediscovering joy in the little moments of everyday life.

She Burned Alive, Still Tethered: Justice for Yeongdeok’s Sister and All Animals Left Behind in Wildfires

To the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Korea and Esteemed Government Officials,

I write to you with a heart burdened by grief and ignited by outrage. The recent wildfires in South Korea have revealed not only the destructive power of nature but a profound and unacceptable cruelty inflicted upon the most vulnerable: the animals left behind. The agonizing death of Yeongdeok’s sister is a stark and horrifying testament to this failure.

As flames swept relentlessly from Uiseong into Yeongdeok County, the inferno engulfed the area where two innocent dogs were tied. While Yeongdeok, by a twist of fate as his plastic leash melted, managed a desperate escape, his sister was condemned by her unyielding steel tether. Imagine her terror: trapped, engulfed by flames, her desperate cries lost in the roar of the fire.

Bound by that unforgiving chain, her small body became a torch. She fought with every fiber of her being, choking on acrid smoke. But the steel held fast. By the time rescuers from CARE finally reached her, her charred remains lay still, a heartbreaking monument to neglect and cruelty—still tethered to the very spot where her life was brutally extinguished.

This was not an accident; it was a choice. A callous disregard for life, a cruel betrayal of the responsibility we owe to those who depend on us. The agonizing death of Yeongdeok’s sister was entirely preventable.

Her tragedy is not an isolated incident. Year after year, during floods, fires, and other disasters across South Korea, countless animals are abandoned to their fate—chained, caged, forgotten. These are not unforeseen consequences; they are the direct result of systemic failures in both law and conscience.

Therefore, I implore you to take immediate and decisive action:

1. Deliver Justice for Yeongdeok’s Sister: Investigate and Prosecute Her Owner for Animal Cruelty. Leaving a defenseless animal tethered and unable to escape a raging wildfire is not mere negligence; it is an act of profound cruelty. We demand a thorough investigation by the Prosecution Service and the full application of South Korea’s Animal Protection Act to hold the responsible party accountable.

2. Fortify South Korea’s Animal Welfare Laws: Strengthen Enforcement and Penalties. This horrific case exposes the urgent need for a comprehensive review and strengthening of animal protection legislation. Stricter penalties for abandonment and cruelty must be enacted and, crucially, rigorously enforced to ensure that justice is served for victims like Yeongdeok’s sister and that such atrocities are deterred.

3. Establish National Emergency Protocols for Animal Rescue: Their Lives Matter Too. Animals are not disposable commodities. The government must immediately establish clear and comprehensive protocols, backed by dedicated resources, for the safe evacuation and protection of animals during all natural disasters. Their lives are no less valuable and deserve our protection.

4. Cultivate a Culture of Compassion: Invest in Public Awareness and Responsible Pet Guardianship. Systemic change requires a fundamental shift in societal attitudes. We urge the government to invest in robust nationwide education and public awareness campaigns that promote empathy, responsible pet ownership, and the ethical treatment of all living beings.

Yeongdeok’s sister endured unimaginable suffering and died a solitary, agonizing death. Her story cannot be allowed to fade into silence. It must ignite a powerful wave of change—a change that will safeguard other innocent lives, ensure accountability for cruelty, and reflect a nation truly committed to compassion and justice.

Online petitions are already underway, demanding swift and meaningful action. https://chng.it/pCksWzPC2x We urge you to heed this call—not only to prosecute those responsible for Yeongdeok’s sister’s death but to enact the systemic reforms necessary to prevent such unspeakable cruelty from ever happening again. Act now. Not just for her memory, but for every vulnerable, voiceless animal left behind.

The world is watching how South Korea responds to this tragedy. Please, stand unequivocally on the side of compassion and justice.

Sincerely,

[Your name, city, country]

CARE’s post in Korean:

I cannot begin to imagine the terror and fear these dogs went through surrounded by flames and other dogs barking and screaming from pain. Unable to get away from the heat and the pain those who died suffered more than any living creature ever should I hear their voices crying for help but when none came all they knew was tears and death. I shed tears for them now and my heart breaks for their suffering before and after they died. I will never forgive the people who left them to burn and I will never forget and neither should the world. Please sign all the petitions and do not let their deaths be in vain and their lives meaningless and empty of love. Pray for their souls and for them to have and know Peace where they rest now. To never remember death only to be free, to know love and to know they are not and will never be forgotten. Please let there be some kind of justice for them ALL let every life mean something because they mean the world to me and I hope when I leave this world I will walk with them and know their Peace and know their love and forgiveness that we could not save them and that we mourn their deaths forever. Rest In Peace little ones ~ you will never be forgotten. Thank you to CARE for having the strength and courage to face the flames and try to save as many as they can. We share your pain and your sorrow and give you strength to go on and continue to fight and make their lives and losses mean something. R.I.P. little Angels ~ fly high and free. 🌹💞🌈
