More hard work – more lives saved: 5 more dogs rescued from an Incheon Munhak-dong dog farm by Nami Kim and her Team

Sharing from Nami Kim and her team.

On April 5, 2016, Nami Kim and her wonderful Team negotiated for and rescued some more dogs from one of the Munhak-dong dog farms, in Incheon, South Korea. They turned out to be a mixed bunch, as one of them is more than likely a stolen pet, and one is an unusual breed, which the Team has not come across before.

Warning: this video contains graphic content, which viewers will find distressing.

I am hesitant about posting this video as it has such graphic content, but Giny thinks we should. This is in the Munhak dog farm 3. Unfortunately, by the time we got there last Tuesday, one of the dogs, I don’t know which one, had only just been slaughtered by the butcher using his knife; its internal organs were still in plain view.

By now its meat will be in the market.

The reporter from Incheon TV was there and saw everything – he could not believe his eyes. He was so helpful and his reporting will ‘speak louder’ than we are able to do.

Groundworks have already been started nearby, in preparation for the construction of a large, new apartment complex, so the butcher is under heavy pressure now.

Within a month, the groundworks for a new construction site will be near this dog farm; and as this butcher is the only one left occupying the land, he will be kicked off before that: in less than a month, he will be gone!

One of the five dogs rescued here, is Samson, Michelle’s dog; he is a lovely affectionate young boy, but we know nothing about Staffordshire Bull Terriers (we think that’s what he is)! Is there anyone who can offer some advice on the best way to handle this breed?

Looking at his teeth, we think that this Golden boy is only about a year old. I have named him Adam, and we believe that he was formerly someone’s pet – stolen purposefully for that farm.

These five dogs that came into our care yesterday, are now exploring the world. We will have them dewormed and vaccinated at the weekend. One of them seems a little lost, and keeps hiding; however, the other four are clearly enjoying their freedom!

This Golden dog is the last one we managed to rescue, but as this breed is considered to be expensive by these people, the butcher wanted payment for him; I gave the man 100,000 Won (US$100) cash.
I am so pleased that our teamwork saved this Golden from a wire cage, as I am a Golden lover.
This farm will be closed down soon to make way for a new apartment complex that is being built in that area; the groundworks have already begun close by. As this butcher is over 70, he says he is too old for this work now, so he won’t be starting up his business again.

The lucky five are: three small Jindo-mix dogs, one Pit Bull and a Golden Retriever. Here is one of the three Jindo-mix dogs being taken to a safe zone.

We had to negotiate for a long time with this butcher; I spent hour talking to him, then Jenny, our Incheon Team Leader, took over, for several more hours.

This man is asking for a lot of compensation from the City funds, because he is being forced to sell his land, to make way for the massive apartment complex that is being built. He has already been paid but is complaining that he has only received half of what the land is worth. The City won’t pay him more, and now he also wants compensation from me for the dogs; and so refuses to surrender more than five dogs today.

The Incheon TV Reporter filmed everything: we managed to get the butcher to release these five dogs, one by one.

Michelle, who is an animal advocate from the UK, joined us on this rescue today, as she happened to be in Seoul.

Although the butcher won’t surrender more than five dogs today, these five were rescued, all in front of the Incheon City Broadcasting TV Reporter.

This is the footage shot at the Munhak dog farm in Incheon. We only found out about this at 10 am today, so did not get there until 11.30 am. We were a little late, and the dogs had been out roaming around the village, as the door had been accidentally left open. However, they were all locked up again by the time we got there.

I then negotiated with the butcher, who agreed to surrender five of his dogs today.
