‘Boknal’ – Worse Than Yulin
3 New Sister City Campaigns against Korean Dog Meat Cruelty

Summer is a brutal and unforgiving season for the dogs in Korea. Dog consumption peaks especially during Boknal, the Korean “dog days of summer,” when eating dog meat is ritualized.

This year, three Boknal days – considered the hottest days of summer – are July 17 (Chobok, the beginning of summer), July 27 (Joongbok, mid-summer), and August 16 (Malbok, the end of summer). During this period, hundreds of thousands of dogs will be brutally slaughtered because of the irrational belief by many Koreans that eating dog meat will increase their stamina and help to keep them cool during the hot summer days.

Our Sister City campaign focuses on Korean cities with high dog meat consumption by urging their sister cities to speak out against this abhorrent practice. Ulsan, Anyang, and Jeonju are next; the scale of dog meat demand in all of these cities is sickening. Please, let’s keep this campaign going! Click below to learn more and take action:

San Francisco, Fisherman’s Wharf Leafleting Event – June 5, 2016

Join us in San Francisco – July 3, Sunday!

Now that the summer vacation season is in full swing, there will be an increased volume of visitors to the world-famous Fisherman’s Wharf. And, of course, this is a 3-day weekend (Independence Day) which means even more foot traffic. So come and help us reach out to as many people as possible!

We will be displaying our banners/posters, handing out leaflets and collecting petition signatures against the extremely cruel South Korean dog meat trade, at this famous San Francisco tourist attraction and landmark.

Location: San Francisco, Fisherman’s Wharf located near the corner of Jefferson and Powell streets along the chain link fence.

Date/Time: July 3, 2016 Sunday. 9:30am – 4:30pm. Come when you can and stay as long as you can. RSVP on Facebook Event!

Join the Animals’ Battalion in New York!
2016 ‘Boknal’ Demonstrations

We are very excited that the New York based animal rights group, The Animals’ Battalion , will be organizing demonstrations in front of the Korean Consulate General’s Office once again this year for the 3 days of Boknal (dog eating is ritualized in Korea – Chobok 7/17, Joongbok 7/27, and Malbok 8/16). They held 3 demonstrations last year at the same location and were covered by ABC network news in New York and also many newspapers in Korea.
