Why is OIE silent about Dog Meat? South Korea, a member of OIE, treats and consumes dogs as livestock. However, dogs are currently not protected under the OIE standards set to protect the health and welfare of livestock animals. OIE Terrestrial Code does not address dogs even though millions in South Korea and other Asian countries are being slaughtered and consumed each year. As an international animal health and welfare standard setting authority, OIE must address and issue an official response on Dog Meat.
