Video: Will the Daegu Chilseong Dog Meat Market close down? Conflicts continue… Daegu MBC News, June 16, 2021.

🎤 KARA spoke up for the dogs in Chilseong Dog Meat Market, in the morning of June 15. Along with fellow animal rights groups, political parties and citizens, KARA had a press conference demanding the complete closure of this market.
The press conference, which began with a speech by the Green Party, was followed by group statements. Local broadcasters and media in Daegu also attended for wide coverage.
KARA will be with their fellow groups and citizens, in order to make Daegu establish and implement a plan to shut down the Chilseong Dog Meat Market, so that the long history of the dog meat market can finally come to an end.

Press conference statement

Chilseong Market is the only remaining of the nation’s top three notorious dog meat markets. Today we launch a coalition for the complete closure of this market. No further argument is necessary. Dog meat is no longer the culture of this era. The last remaining dog meat market is not a place to preserve, but one which Daegu must close permanently, as soon as possible.

What we ultimately demand is a shutdown of all stores that exhibit live dogs and carcasses and those which sell dog meat.

In response, we demand City of Daegu and Daegu Buk-gu District as below:
1. Mayor Kwon Young-Jin must apologize for his failure to keep his promise to shut down the markets by 2020, and implement the shutdown within the year.
2. Establish measures which include all adjacent dog meat stores, not only the stores inside the marketplace.
3. Organize a task group that includes local governments, animal rights organizations, and merchants so that we can all work together to shut down Chilseong dog meat market.
4. Introduce a special envoy dedicated to animal abuse, and crack down thoroughly.
