Urgent Action Alert! Three hundred dogs burned to death at Chungju’s massive dog farm!
Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)/Watchdog
Another catastrophic fire!! Watchdog visits the Chungju dog farm.
CARE/Watchdog visited a large dog farm in Salmi-myeon, Chungju, today. We saw an article about a fire that broke out at a dog farm at about 6:43 am on December 6, but more details could not be found, and we could not connect with the person in charge at the Chungju local government.
CARE is still caring for all 170 dogs from the dog slaughterhouse, which also burned in the forest fire in Uljin. So the possibility of having to take care of another large number of dogs was heavy in our hearts. But we went there to examine the exact situation because we thought that the dogs that had been burned should not be abandoned.
A total of 800 dogs were at the dog farm that caught fire. Most of them were Jindo dog mix breeds. Of those 800 dogs, 300 were burned by the fire, and all died. It was announced that the fire spread within 20 minutes, but in that time, the dogs were burnt to death. We couldn’t go inside, but we were able to check it on video, and this was confirmed directly by the manager in charge of the local government. Of the 500 survivors, only three dogs were said to have only partially burned fur and no skin burns. We were told that there were some photographs of the fire, so we will take a look at them when we receive them. The other dogs were housed in a separate part of the facility and were not harmed.
The farm owner is repairing some of the burned dog farm facilities. He plans to fix it and fill the cages with dogs again. However, Watchdog has investigated all violations of laws at this dog farm facility today and will file complaints against this dog farm so that the owner can no longer continue raising dogs for the slaughterhouses.

The City of Chungju
Dear President Yoon Suk-yeol and the South Korean government,
We ask that the South Korean government prosecute and punish the dog farmer in Chungju Salmi-myeon who locked up his 800 dogs in raised wire cages, causing 300 dogs to be burned to death in the fire, violating the Animal Protection Act. We also ask that the surviving dogs at the Chungju dog farm be relocated to the Chungju Shelter immediately for medical care and protection and permanently shut down the dog farm.
Please see the video of the Chungju dog farm burned in the fire: https://youtu.be/U4NmrEZNu1g
Our hearts have been broken thousands of times, but the thoughts of the 300 dogs in cages burned to death are truly horrific and heartbreaking. How can the people of a modern nation such as South Korea, the nation of Samsung, Hyundai, Kia, and LG Electronics, have this utter disregard for the lives of sentient animals who look upon them as a family? This heartless dog farm owner left his dogs locked up in raised wire cages, knowing full well what horror awaited them.
His action is criminal and violates the Animal Protection Act. He must be prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law. The South Korean government must take immediate measures to prevent unimaginable cruelty against dogs and cats. Numerous dog farms operating in Chungju are illegal and must be shut down immediately.
An online petition calling for your immediate action is in progress: https://chng.it/gg89LFFx.
The favor of your reply is requested.
