San Francisco, Fisherman’s Wharf Leafleting Event – July 3, 2016
A big thank you goes out to the volunteers who came out on the 4th of July holiday weekend (U.S. Independence Day), to give a voice to the Korean dogs in the dog meat trade!!! Your compassion and dedication is truly appreciated. Kit, Don, Gabriel, Natalie, Thaeddeus, Pam, Erin, Lee, myself, and Laura with her dogs Toby and Anika, who were rescued by Nami Kim from a South Korea dog farm. We worked very hard to advocate for the Korean dogs. It was especially nice to have Korean dogs, commonly called “yellow dog” or ‘nureonggi’ (누렁이) join us today to help speak out for their friends in Korea who are not as fortunate as they, who had been saved. Seeing them in real life, almost made me cry. They were very sweet and gentle, and wonderful volunteer helpers, because when people see them and touch them, it helps them imagine the horror and inhumanity of the dog meat industry. Thank you so much Laura, for adopting them and bringing them to our event!
A special thank you goes out to Kit and Don. Kit always arrives there two hours before I do to make sure she gets a parking spot and stays the whole day with me. It’s a 10 hour shift for Kit and I could not thank her enough. Also, Kit is fluent in Chinese so she is a valuable member of our volunteer team, because there are very many Chinese- speaking visitors at this location. Don has been helping us at every event that he can attend, for the last 3 years and he always helps for the entire day. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated team of volunteers helping to advocate for the Korean dogs. It was great to have some first-time volunteers helping us as well. Pam, Erin and Thaeddeus were first- time leaflet distributors, and they did an awesome job collecting a ton of petition signatures. We collected a total 1,033 signatures (Incredible!!!) and handed out over 1,300 leaflets. It was another great day at the famous San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf, with lots of tourists and visitors from throughout the world, many of whom were from South Korea. Everyone can do something to bring change. What will you do today?
