KARA: Emergency rescue of 31 dogs, 2 goats, 2 turkeys and 2 wild geese was successfully accomplished!!

Sharing for Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA)

🐶 Part 1

Do you remember Seulmun-dong slaughterhouse that KARA raided last December? The butcher, who disappeared after being fined 2 million won (about 2,000 USD) for his brutal slaughter, showed up at the dog auction house again and started buying dogs.

After months of tracking, KARA found the missing butcher in Yeoju, and raided him today. As we went to the scene, the butcher shouted at us, “Get out!”

At the time of the approach, slaughter was about to begin. Many dogs were already wet, so that the butcher can electrocute them at any time. KARA had arrived just in time to save the dogs who might have died feeling the pain of electric shock throughout their body.

The butcher happened to have moved to Yeoju City, to increase and accelerate dog slaughter and sales. He bought dogs every day in and out of the auction house, sprayed water on the crumpled dogs in the wire cages, and put electric iron skewers here and there in order to electrocute them.

We had asked many people to actively participate in the civil complaint. Thanks to this, 31 dogs, 2 goats, 2 turkeys, and 2 geese at the site of Wangdaeri Slaughterhouse in Yeoju were able to be immediately rescued.

KARA will consult with Yeoju to get the ownership waiver as soon as possible. Until then, animals will be moved to a temporary location prepared by the city of Yeoju so that the butcher can no longer take them away.

KARA immediately conducted kit tests on 31 dogs after the rescue. Fortunately, there were no negative results, but monitoring for various latent period diseases was still needed.

Slaughterhouse rescue is not an easy process for even the experienced activists. Activists who face the dead bodies at the scene sometimes lose sleep for days because of the regret and sadness that they couldn’t save every one of the animals. Some activists cry alone behind the scenes after the rescue is complete. Activists who spent nearly 48 hours waiting, lurking and rescuing at the scene of the raid on the slaughterhouse in Yeoju today, tried their best to locate the butcher and rescue animals who had been extremely abused.

In order to cut off the death distribution network and speed up the end of the dog meat industry, KARA has been working on large scale rescues, uncovering many slaughterhouses. KARA operates without any government support, but solely with the support of caring people. Many rescued animals need help and support to treat diseases, neutering, socialization, and adoption. 🐶 Part 2

The rescue animals had a hard time yesterday. The dogs were brought to the slaughterhouse packed together in wire cages from the auction house, and for faster slaughter, the butcher poured water on them without even taking them out of the cages.

In the slaughterhouse, there were animals who didn’t move or react at all as if they had given up everything. There were also young dogs who loved people very much, but there were also dogs who seemed to have never before been out of the cage.

Concerned about the animals’ mental trauma, activists went to the temporary shelter site together last night. But surprisingly, some of the dogs who didn’t respond at all at the slaughterhouse, barked and wagged their tails as we arrived at the shelter site. They laid down as we touched them, and they were so happy with the snacks we gave them. Probably, for the first time, they knew they were safe.

Activists continued with the kit testing and vaccinations at the site, and provided food and clean water for the animals. As soon as the ownership of the animals is officially established, they will become KARA’s rescue animal. We will fill out individual management cards to speed up vaccination, medical treatment, neutering, socialization education, adoption, and more.

KARA have been carrying out a series of large-scale rescues since last year, uncovering many slaughterhouses in order to cut off the death distribution network and speed up the end of the dog meat industry. On the way to the completion of our mission, please help KARA and the rescue animals.

Well done Kara. The South Korean government should be ashamed not stopping the cruelty to dogs. My heart bleeds for the loving dogs who have suffered so much.

There are no words I can express to say how sad it is and was for all the animals and all the rescuers who helped to save them. For me it is a heart matter. I understand how much torcher the animals went through and the emotional pain the rescuers worked through to save them. We are all grateful for all the positive good you all have been doing, and it is priceless. God bless!!
