In response to our campaign, Friendship City Campaign – Seoul, South Korea – London, UK, London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon kindly wrote to us on behalf of the Liberal Democrat Group in the London Assembly. In her letter, Assemblymember Pidgeon expressed the Liberal Democrat Group’s support for our campaign and stated that “I fully agree that these barbaric practices need to be eliminated and I will be submitting a further written question to the Mayor of London next month in support of your calls, urging him to, once again, make representations on your behalf to Seoul’s Mayor on this matter.”

Ms. Pidgeon also took action to address our petition to the London Mayor back in 2017 when we first launched this campaign and shared the response from the Mayor’s office with us.

We appreciate Assemblymember Pidgeon and the Liberal Democrat Group on the London Assembly for caring about this issue and taking action to speak out against the brutal treatment of countless dogs in Seoul’s dog meat industry. We hope that more members of the London Assembly will join the Liberal Democrat Group and help send a clear message to Seoul and the South Korean government that the barbaric and cruel dog meat industry has no place in the modern world and that they must put an end to this industry if they want to benefit from partnerships with cities in other countries.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for raising this important issue. Please treat this email as a joint response on behalf of the Liberal Democrat Group on the London Assembly.

The images showing the horrors of the dog meat trade in South Korea, including the horrific treatment of dogs, are incredibly difficult to watch, and I agree with you that these practices are inhumane and must come to an end.

In August 2017 I tabled a written question to the Mayor of London regarding the cruel cat and dog meat trade in South Korea. Please find reference to my question and the Mayor’s response here: https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2017/3096

I fully agree that these barbaric practices need to be eliminated and I will be submitting a further written question to the Mayor of London next month in support of your calls, urging him to, once again, make representations on your behalf to Seoul’s Mayor on this matter.
