Lemon has been subjected to forced breeding and birth, prolonged confinement, and insurmountable suffering before being callously discarded. Though she was fortunate enough to be rescued from a nightmarish place, the shadow of death still looms over her. Lemon’s survival is vital not only for her well-being but also as a powerful symbol that sheds light on the harsh realities of the breeding industry and the unimaginable suffering that breeding animals endure. CARE has named this project “Lemon Free.”

Colossal Graveyard of Starving Animals: 1,500 Bodies Found at the end of breeding Industry

Lemon and her companions were the only survivors in a colossal graveyard of over 1,500 bodies. By a stroke of luck, they became the final arrivals of this ghastly place before its existence was brought to light. But had they not been found, they too would have perished in the silence of the graveyard without a name or a chance to survive. Their bodies would have been consumed by the next wave of doomed dogs. And the cycle of suffering and death would have multiplied to catastrophic proportions.

These deaths are not anomalies. They are happening everywhere in our country right now. And unless the commercial breeding and trading of animals are legally banned, they will continue to occur in the future.

Lemon is currently undergoing an urgent blood transfusion to save her life. After repeated forced pregnancies and births, Lemon was left with severely damaged genitals that became necrotic. She underwent excision and suturing of her damaged genitals, but further emergency surgery was required at a second facility. Inevitably, without reconstructive surgery, Lemon’s life is in peril; however, her depleted stamina demands a focus on fluid therapy for the time being. Despite the severity of her condition, we are committed to Lemon’s recovery and will stop at nothing to ensure her survival.

Pomi’s hind legs are troubled with hip dysplasia, requiring surgery to treat her hips and knees. Luckily, Woohyun, a year-old dog who recently gave birth suffers only from malnutrition and skin disease. But Woohyun’s offspring remain within the confines of the puppy mill, where they face either being marketed like mere products or a future of perpetual breeding, as with Woohyun. All rescued breeding dogs have been found with severe ear and skin ailments and malnourishment, necessitating extended and intensive medical attention.

After their discharge, Woohyun and Pomi can receive additional treatments and surgeries after their discharge, but Lemon will require extended hospitalization. “레몬이는 강제 번식과 출산, 감금과 고통으로부터 만신창이가 된 후 폐기되었고 아사 직전 구출되어 해방되었습니다. 그러나 아직도 죽음의 그림자에서 벗어나지 못하고 있습니다. 레몬은 번식산업 실체를 폭로하는 고통 받는 번식동물들의 상징으로, 반드시 살아야 합니다. 그리고 자유로워져야 합니다. 케어는 이 프로젝트 명을 <레몬, 프리> 로 명명합니다.”

가장 마지막에 들어가 운 좋게 살아있던 개들, 레몬과 친구들은 1500여구가 넘는 사체가 쌓여있던 거대한 무덤 속을 결국 탈출했습니다. 우연이었습니다. 우연히 발견되지 않았다면 사체들에 섞여 죽었을 것이며 삶의 기회도, 이름도 얻지 못했을 것입니다. 그리고 다음 차례의 개들이 이들을 파먹고 목숨을 연명하다 더 이상 먹을 사체도 없어지면 소리 없이 꺼져갔을 것입니다. 1500여구는 앞으로 1만 4천구가, 14만 4천구가 되었을 것입니다.
그러나 이 죽음들은 이례적인 것이 아닙니다. 지금도 도처에서 벌어지고 있으며 동물을 상업적으로 번식하고 거래하는 행위들이 법적으로 원천 금지되지 않는 한, 앞으로 10년, 20년, 일상적으로 반복될 문제들인 것입니다.
📌생식기가 다 찢어진 채 무덤 속으로 들어온 포메라니안 종의 레몬이는 4-5 살, 뽀미(포메라니안) 와 우현이(푸들)는 1-2살입니다.
📌레몬이는 오늘 긴급 수혈에 들어가고 있습니다.
당초 반복된 임신과 강제출산으로 찢어진 채 방치된 생식기가 심각하게 괴사되었습니다.
처음 병원에서 긴급하게 생식기를 도려내고 봉합했으나 2차 병원에서 다시 긴급으로 재수술을 해야 했습니다. 앞으로도 생식기 성형 수술이 필요하며 수술을 하지 않으면 결국 죽을 수밖에 없지만 수술을 다시 할 체력이 되지 않아 체력이 향상될 때까지는 수액치료에 집중하고 있습니다. 그러나 반드시, 반드시 살려내겠습니다.
뽀미는 뒷다리 두 개 모두 고관절이형성증으로 고관절 수술과 무릎까지 수술을 해 주어야 합니다. 우현이는 출산한 지 얼마 안 된 1살 정도의 어린 개입니다. 영양실조와 피부병만 있다는 것이 다행이다 싶을 정도입니다. 우현이의 아기들은 아직 번식장에 있을 것이며 물건처럼 판매되거나 우현이와 같은 모견의 삶을 살아갈 것입니다. 이번에 구조된 번식용 모견들의 피부와 귓속은 심각한 상태. 영양상태도 좋지 않아 장기간의 집중케어가 필요합니다.
우현과 뽀미는 일단 퇴원한 후 2차 치료 및 수술들을 해도 되지만 레몬은 매우 오랜 입원치료가 필요한 상황입니다. 레몬이가 꼭 일어나도록, 일어나서 당당히 우리 사회에 그 존재의 의미를, 지금도 보이지 않는 존재들의 삶을 알릴 수 있도록 함께 동참해 주십시오.
(지금까지 9,210,379이 모금되었고 이 중 잔액 4,948,199원이 남았습니다. 초기 검진 및 수술비가 2,529,680원, 2일간의 치료비가 1,732,500원이 지출되었습니다. 앞으로 뽀미의 다리 (고관절+무릎 수술 500여만원) 수술과 레몬의 생식기 성형 수술 및 입원 치료 (500여만원), 스티비의 중성화 수술 등 부족한 최소 금액은 치료비만 600여만원입니다.
이후 레몬의 집중 치료와 아이들 모두의 향후 입양까지의 관리는 그동안 케어 구조견들의 치료와 관리, 입양을 진행해 준 입양전문단체 < 스마일 > 이 연대하여 집중 관리할 것입니다.
