Campaign update: Victory in our campaign “US borough blocks Korean students’ trip over country’s dog meat tradition.”
This is an update to our campaign: 👉 Friendship City Campaign – Ganghwa-gun, South Korea – Palisades Park, New Jersey.
👉😢 Incheon Ganghwa-gun Government must rescue all 500 dogs from hellscape illegal dog farm!
The Korea Times reported on 2/10/2023, “A proposed program for high school students of Ganghwa County, Incheon, that would send them to the U.S. borough of Palisades Park, New Jersey, for foreign language and culture education, has failed to get off the ground due to negative public opinion there regarding Korea’s tradition of eating dog meat, which was raised by animal rights activists in the U.S., according to county officials, Friday.”
It reported, “The program aimed to give Korean students opportunities to learn English and experience a different culture for three weeks. It was originally scheduled to take place in December.
However, last June, Palisades Park abruptly informed Ganghwa County of their intention to suspend cooperation regarding the program, stating that the decision was unavoidable as it faced negative public opinion due to Korea’s dog farms, where dogs are raised for meat in Ganghwa County.”

This is a significant victory for our campaign and the animal activists in Korea who are fighting tirelessly to end the cruel dog meat industry. Our campaign Borough of Palisades Park (Bergen County) Mayor Christopher Chung: Tell your Friendship City, Incheon Ganghwa-gun County, South Korea, that you are opposed to the torture and consumption of dogs and cats were launched on 2/20/2022, and since that time many animal advocates from around the world have taken action. It is also worth noting that the former Mayor Chung of Palisades Park (when the decision was made to suspend the trip) is a Korean American. In addition, about half of the members serving on the same council were Korean Americans, which makes their decision even more remarkable and significant.
Incheon Ganghwa County is considered to be one of the dog meat farm capitals of South Korea and is the location of dozens of dog farms and slaughterhouses. They continue to operate in hellish conditions while the local government shamefully ignores their existence. 👉 Click HERE to learn more about Ganghwa County’s dog meat industry.
We hope this bold action taken by the Palisades Park government sends a strong message to the Korean people and their government that their indifference to the cruel and inhumane treatment of man’s best friends will not go unnoticed around the world, and their inaction will have consequences.
Your voice is heard by Palisades Park!
We are grateful to the Borough of Palisades Park leadership for making this ethical and compassionate decision and for being the voice for the countless animals horribly abused and killed in Korea’s gruesome dog and cat meat industry. WE THANK YOU!🙏🐾 Please feel free to send a message of thank you to the current council members of Palisades Park and ask them to continue urging Ganghwa County to end the cruel industry.
