Seoul Mapo-gu, South Korea, Shut down the illegal dog meat farms, slaughterhouses, markets and restaurants.

Seoul Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo Dong-Gyun

If you want to help fight the grisly South Korean dog and cat meat trade and make a difference in South Korea, here are a few quick actions you can take that could save millions of dogs and cats each year.

In Seoul Mapo-gu, there are countless markets and restaurants, where there are dogs suffering, they are tortured their entire lives and slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging or beating; and then thrown into boiling water – sometimes while they are still alive, the meat is then sold to consumers. Many of these dogs are abandoned and stolen former pets, and they end up in the dog meat industry, these dogs are subjected to the same cruelty.

A Search Engine reveals the sickening scale of Seoul Mapo-gu’s dog meat demand.

Two search results on Naver (the most popular search engine in Korea) – the first one was for so-called “Health Centers,” which commonly sell dog elixirs and cat elixirs (also known as dog soju and cat soju); and the second one was for “dog meat restaurants”: 121 Health Food Shops and 61 dog meat restaurants in the vicinity of Seoul Mapo-gu.

Even if half of these ‘Health’ Centers and restaurants serve dog and cat ‘ingredients’ in one form or another, imagine how many dog/cat slaughterhouses must be in the vicinity of Seoul Mapo-gu to supply these outlets.

There are laws in South Korea against selling dogs and cats for consumption, yet these laws are blatantly ignored.

For thousands of years man has bred dogs to be man’s loyal companion. What kind of barbaric ignorant people would do this to them? I or my family will not purchase anything made in South Korea or China as in Kia, Hyundai, LG, Samsung and others as long as dogs are treated in this way. If it’s made in an evil backward dog eating country don’t buy it. There are plenty of other more civilized nations.

These are sick people who eat dogs and cats. Torture them in such ways that we cannot understand the pain and sufferings. There are so much other kinds of food to eat. These traditions must stop. These animals have love and understanding in their hearts. They are Gods gifts to man.

Filed e-people and this time they didn’t ignore me completely. I received a notification that it was transfered to Mapo-Gu administration. We shall see what they will say…
By the way the e-people site changed to better. No need to download and upload files now – just enter the text and that’s all. Folks, go pour them with petitions! When all their work day will be answering questions about dog meat trade they will realize it IS a problem.

I already know some Korean words… I know what is Gu and boshintag, and some others. As a linguist I should be glad, but I’d prefer to spend months of learning than to learn words from such a case… What a great country Korea fails to become. With such a culture and such a technology level it could be one of the world civilization centers. But nope, they prefer to eat dogs as some neanderthals in their caves.
Biggest respect to tose Koreand who fight for dogs and their country’s dignity.

I agree. How can a so-called civilised society condone the cruel sadistic torture and killing of these sentient, loyal animals. Why must they endure the pain and suffering to satisfy some ridiculous antiquated custom of eating dogs and cats. How can these butchers have no compassion when they look into the pleadings eyes of these poor animals? The dog meat trade should be banned immediately with heavy fines and prison for those who continue this practice. The government would surely take notice if we stopped buying Korean goods.
