What do you think about the Busan Buk-gu District Office’s response that the Gupo Dog Meat Market is not illegal?
The Busan Buk-gu District Office sent this to us in response to our (Busan Korea Alliance for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) civil complaint.
As you can see in the official memorandum, they are saying that the several provisions listed in the memo don’t apply to the Gupo Dog Meat Market.
Those provisions don’t apply?
In our view, all the provisions apply. What do you think?
Do you think the Gupo Dog Meat Market is a clean, pollution-free area that has no offensive odor; no slaughterhouse; is not a dog market; has no animal excrements; and does no processing and disposal of animal carcasses?
Based on their official memorandum response, the Busan Buk-gu District Office believes the Gupo Dog Meat Market is a clean pollution-free area and therefore these provisions don’t apply.

We have reviewed your suggestion that the prohibited conducts in accordance to the School Health Act’ “School Environment, Hygiene, Cleanup Zone” is continued to be committed at the Gupo Livestock Markets. Based on our review we are hereby informing you that the act or facility that is described in the School Health Act‘ Article 6, Paragraph 1, each of the Subparagraph(conduct and facility specified in each statue listed below) do not apply to the Gupo Livestock (dog) Market business establishments and therefore they are not subject to the administrative action nor an order of removal.
Subparagraph 1 (Conduct or facility that exceeds offensive odor, water quality discharge limits): Water quality, Ecosystem Conservation Act, Offensive Odor Control Act.
Subparagraph 5 (Slaughterhouse): Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act.
Subparagraph 7 (Livestock wastewater discharge facilities, etc.): Law on Management and Use of Livestock Manure.
Subparagraph 8 (Livestock carcass disposal, etc.): Act on the Prevention of Contagious Animal Diseases
Subparagraph 11 (Livestock market): Livestock Industry Act

It appears that the officials in the Busan Buk-gu District put money and greed before the education of their young children. This is despicable and 100% idiotic!!! Imagine letting your kids grow up hearing the screaming of the meat dogs and seeing them writhe in agony, being brutally slaughtered right in front of their young eyes. It will either traumatize these children for life or make them immune to the suffering of animals, turning them into the next generation of animal abusers. This is shameful behavior and must be stopped.

Please reconsider and stop this. Children should be protected from all violence and should not witness any kind of suffering. At some point we all have to do something at some time. How would you feel if it were your child in this situation? You wouldn’t be in this situation, so why should these children.

This is not going to help, children must not be exposed to the vile practice that is happening daily. They will either suffer distress or trauma and possibly think that it is quite acceptable to do such shocking, cruel and inhumane things to dogs. There must be a way that the Korean government will listen and understand the world is shocked and sickened by the practice of eating cats and dogs and the way these poor animals are treated with such brutal and inhumane methods. Also many Koreans feel the same and agree it is time for change, please make that change and end this vile practice. The world will respect Korea for taking such positive action by stopping the suffering and cruelty these defenseless animals are subjected to.
The Koreans are known for their amazing dishes and authentic dishes that do not include the cruel practice of killing cats and dogs to produce. Thank you for reading this comment.

I go out of my way to not buy products from South Korea because of this blasted dog and cat meat trade. It’s so horrible, it’s hurts to think about. I know that the “World Society For The Protection of Animals” has issued a proclamation vehemently opposed to the use of dogs and cats as
livestock. They’ve studied it and have come to the conclusion that it is a disease ridden, inhuman, cruel and criminal-gang controlled industry. It is just damn bad. I wish the good people of South Korea would get together and put a stop to it. We, as outsiders have to just keep spreading the word, contributing
money, writing letters, signing petitions and hoping.

I just replaced my car two weeks ago. I looked at the automobile websites for two full weeks before deciding which automaker I would buy a car from. Incredibly, time after time, I ended up looking at Hyundai. But this dog barbaric cruelty videos/issue kept creeping up in my mind and I knew I just could not buy Hyundai… Every time I would sit in a Hyundai car, images of these dogs invaded my brain…

I already started to Boycott any products from Korea until this stops. I am spreading the word and already have others doing the same. We have to educate the public about the Dog meat trade and Boycott all products from Korea such as: LG, Samsung, etc.

As a child during WW2 I was forced to watch a small pig slaughtered for food. It was not tortured. Indeed, it was treated humanely and killed quickly. The memory of that pigs’ screams of terror, however, lives with me still…. 74 years later. All officials and slaughterers should be tried and convicted not only of animal abuse….but of child abuse also. I will never knowingly buy another North or South Korean product. Which would include automobiles.

Just heartbreaking to see these people torture, for long periods of time, dogs and cats. Beaten, dropping into boiling water, torched with a blow torch, then skinned while still alive.
