CARE: Help us save rescued dogs from the life-threatening “Bloat”!

Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)

There is a very dangerous condition called “bloat” that can easily affect large dogs.

CARE has rescued 21 dogs from a dog farm/dog disposal facility in Geumsan, including four brothers who are large breed Nureongis. The volunteers who have helped with the rescue continue to provide opportunities for these junior Nureongis to show their potential as pets, taking them for walks, playing with them, and taking profile photos to ensure they can eventually be adopted.

CARE is known for rescuing the most Nureongis in Korea by eliminating dog farms and slaughterhouses. And we learned that Nureongis have a very dangerous condition called “blot” that can cause these dogs to die suddenly. Among the rescue dogs from the Uljin forest fire, about 10% have passed away after doing well for several months post-rescue. It is an acute condition that can strike without warning, leaving veterinarians helpless even when taken to the hospital.

Bloat primarily affects large breeds with deep chests, like Great Danes. The Nureongi also resemble Great Danes in body shape. This results from breeders continuously mixing breeds to create larger dogs.

Bloat occurs when the stomach twists, cutting off blood flow, which can lead to severe and fatal outcomes. Symptoms include abdominal swelling, excessive drooling, rapid breathing, and increased heart rate. Dogs can be at risk for bloat if they eat quickly, eat large amounts at once, exercise vigorously after eating, or experience stress.

Volunteers have noticed that among the junior Nureongis, Peter shows characteristics that put him at a higher risk for bloat. They’ve witnessed him suddenly bloating while playing a few times. While care can be taken to prevent bloat in daily life, it’s not always avoidable; in other countries, preventative surgery is sometimes performed.

We want to ensure Peter and his brothers receive check-ups and treatment to prevent bloat. We cannot afford to cover the costs for all four brothers, but we would like to pursue preventative surgery for Peter, who is at the highest risk.

Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of Peter and his brothers. We would deeply appreciate your help through this $8 USD relay.

💗 To donate to Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE), the best option is to contribute directly to them. However, we have set up a GoFundMe page for those who prefer an alternative where you can donate and share with your friends and family. Rest assured, 100% of the funds raised on GoFundMe will be donated to CARE. (South Korea is not on the list of Countries supported on GoFundMe, so KoreanDogs.org is raising money for CARE instead.) 👉 GoFundMe Link: https://gofund.me/d483838d
