Dear Venerable Jinhwa Sunim,
I write to you as not some stranger in a far away land but as someone who has upmost respect for Buddhism and what it stands for. The world could truly learn from the wise teachings of Buddha. One of my favorite teachings is ” When a man has pity on all living creatures then only is he noble”.
All of Asia and most especially Korea is suffering because of the brutal dog and cat meat trade. We know that when animals suffer people suffer. You know their suffering better than I ever could because you live there. But I tell you truly that I see and fill their suffering. I believe our vey earth is groaning over this seemingly unstoppable cruelty.
I ask that you do not ignore or deny what is going on in your homeland. I believe that being a man of such honor as yourself would not stand for this spilling of innocent blood to go on day after day. I hope that your heart will take courage and stand up for what is right. I hope that Buddhism stands up and leads the way out of the dark ages and into the light where animals are treated fairly.
Thank you.
Sincerely, Terrie Phillips
