Friendship City Campaign – Ulsan Ulju-gun, South Korea – Sintra, Portugal
President Basílio Horta of Sintra: Tell Friendship City, Ulsan Ulju-gun, South Korea, That We’re Opposed to the Torture and Consumption of Dogs and Cats.
If you want to help fight the grisly South Korean dog and cat meat trade and make a difference in South Korea, here are a few quick actions you can take that could save millions of dogs and cats each year.
Ulsan Ulju-gun became Friendship city with Sintra, Portugal in 2017.
In Ulsan Ulju-gun, there are countless markets and restaurants where the dogs, tortured their entire lives and slaughtered in the most inhumane ways – such as by electrocution; hanging or beating; and being thrown into boiling water often while still alive – are served as food. In many cases, these dogs are killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry and are subjected to the same cruelty.
A Search Engine reveals the sickening scale of Ulsan Ulju-gun’s dog meat demand.
Searches turned up hundreds of Health Food Shops and dog meat restaurants in and within the vicinity of Ulsan Ulju-gun.
Even if only half of these ‘Health’ Food Shops and restaurants serve dog and cat ‘ingredients’ in one form or another, just imagine how many dog/cat slaughterhouses must be present in the area to supply these outlets.
There are laws in South Korea against selling dogs and cats for consumption, yet these laws are blatantly ignored.

Do you think that Sintra should be a Friendship city to any city that allows dogs and cats to be tortured and eaten? Please urge Ulsan Ulju-gun Mayor Lee Seon-Ho to close down all those illegal dog farms and slaughterhouses, markets, truckers, and restaurants that serve these animal products. An online petition calling for your support in ending the horrendous South Korean dog and cat meat cruelty is in progress: http://bit.ly/ulsan-ulju-sintra

Hello, I’m calling to speak to someone in the President’s Office to ask for their help on an important issue regarding your Friendship city, Ulsan Ulju-gun in South Korea.
If I could explain: dog-meat consumption is currently being practiced in that county, even though it is illegal under South Korean Law – but the laws are not enforced. The dog and cat meat trades involve extreme and widespread animal cruelty, and the animals suffer unimaginable pain and distress. They cannot speak for themselves which is why I am calling on their behalf. And, I believe that your city would wish to be made aware of this issue, as you would not want to be affiliated with a county where illegal and immoral torture is being carried out on any animal, and particularly not on ones that are loyal, trusting creatures, which look up to us humans as their guardians.
These illegal trades are being allowed to continue by Korean authorities – even though there is growing opposition from pet owners across South Korea, and throughout the world.
So, I am asking you to please speak with your counterparts in Ulsan Ulju-gun to urge them to enforce their own laws, not ignore them, and to show compassion to their companion animals, and also respect to their own citizens, by bringing these trades to an end.
This is the time to make change; this is the time to stop the illegal, inhumane and unnecessary cruelty. I know that South Korea has many beautiful, admirable, and noble practices and customs worth preserving, but this is not one of them.
Thank you for your time and understanding. - Send a Twitter message!

This is really disgusting that human beings can kill and torture animals in the most barbaric ways for reasons that are so evil its hard to believe that they even believe these superstitions, also that other countrys say its these countrys traditions that they eat endangered species or eat animals that civilised countrys would never dream of,I do not say that eating cows, pigs ,sheep ,goats ,chickens and rabbits etc is right, thats why I eat vegan after many years of eating meat ,even though I wanted to change I found out it was not easy as there were no choices to change years ago,but now there is many alternatives to meat. There is nothing right eating mans best friend or that cat down the road or the bats we marvel at and keeps insects at bay, keeping wild animals in cages is the most evil way to get ill and even to end the demise of ones own race, its not right and its not fair on these animals at all.
This is simply unbelievable that there are still people in this world that continue to torture, abuse, kill and then eat dogs and cats, even after all of the protests for many years, from all over the world. How cruel can these people be, without any care for these animals? It makes me very upset to see the looks on these animals… some faces of unfounded hope that they may get out of their situation and other’s faces of despair and death. Totally wrong, wrong, wrong, no matter how you look at it. These animals deserve better.
