The massive dog farm in Pyeongtaek, with thousands of dogs, is still operating!

Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)

Do you remember the massive dog farm in Pyeongtaek, where thousands of dogs were imprisoned and operated by a former president of the Korean Dog Farmers Trade Association? Despite the relentless efforts of the Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE) since 2021 to shut down this facility, it continues to operate. The Pyeongtaek Government’s shameful inaction and the dog farmer’s defiance have allowed this hellscape to persist. Last March, CARE mobilized at the dog farm, urging the local government to take action.

They are confined to raised wire cages in cramped spaces where they cannot even turn around. Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE).

Massive dog farm in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, where thousands of dogs are imprisoned in agony CARE.

CARE monitored a massive dog farm in Pyeongtaek for approximately 30 days. In animal rights activism, this dedicated observation is often termed a “vigil” – an act of vigilance, remembrance, documentation, and unveiling of cruelty. By surveilling this site, CARE aimed to uncover the brutal reality of “raised wire cages” and stop the dogs from being dragged to the slaughterhouse.

Eventually, CARE activists received a court order prohibiting them from approaching within 100 meters of the dog farm until July 5, 2024, and were chased away from the scene. Nevertheless, CARE remains undeterred in their commitment to shut down this dog farm. The haunting images of dogs being forcibly removed from the raised wire cages, cramped and in agony and pain, destined for the slaughterhouse, persist in their memory. They cannot forget the sight of helpless dogs enduring their fate or those desperately seeking assistance, their heads poking out from broken wire cages.

CARE, AD, and the Catchdog Team organized rallies outside Pyeongtaek Station and made numerous visits to Pyeongtaek City Hall to educate and persuade officials. The upcoming decision from Pyeongtaek City Hall is eagerly anticipated, especially considering their initial response, asserting that the situation does not constitute abuse simply because the dogs can sit and stand on wire cages.

Administrative sanctions are gradually being imposed for the illegal activities of the dog farm we previously reported. Despite our complaints to the local government years ago, numerous violations persist, indicating an ongoing disregard for the law.

• Additional charges for violation of the National Land Planning and Utilization Act
• Administrative disposition for violation of the Farm Land Act
• Administrative disposition for violation of the Agricultural and Fishing Village Improvement Act
• Administrative disposition for violation of the Building Act
• Administrative disposition for violation of the Act on the Management and Use of Livestock Excreta
• Administrative disposition for violation of the Waste Control Act

This is the reality of the dog farm operated by a former Korean Dog Farmers Trade Association president.

We persist in our outcry: “That is animal abuse; you must protect those dogs.” Despite the enactment of the law to end dog meat consumption, tens of thousands of dogs are still confined to dog farms, with new puppies continually being born into this cycle of suffering. This underscores the ongoing necessity for animal activists to advocate during the three-year grace period. We implore you to unite with us and raise your voices. Let us stand as witnesses against the violence inflicted upon these poor animals.

This abhorrent treatment of dogs does nothing to enhance the image and reputation of Korea in the world. This is despicable and no humans with any compassion would allow such operations to continue. Does not Korea have any conscience or compassion for other living things at all? As long as these atrocities continue, I think not, and will avoid any product made in Korea until it stops completely. It is time Korea comes into the 21st century!!
