President Yoon Suk-Yeol, end the horrific dog and cat meat consumption in South Korea now.
For the first time, South Korea has a President who lives with four dogs and three cats. Now, there is a new opportunity for our message to be heard by President Yoon Suk-Yeol’s government and bring about the changes we have been working so hard for. During his campaign, the President said he would end dog meat consumption through “social consensus.” But this method appears to be an excuse to delay any meaningful action; at this rate, it could take years or even decades!
We can’t afford to waste any time: file petitions, write, or email President Yoon and ask him to address the most urgent and widespread animal cruelty issue existing in South Korea today. Ask him to finally put a permanent end to dog and cat meat consumption and bring honor to his country and its citizens by having South Korea adhere to the standards other industrialized countries have set regarding animal welfare!

With the ubiquity of social media, we see shocking and heartbreaking images and videos of innocent dogs being tortured and killed in your country every day.
Even though Korea has established an Animal Protection Law for companion animals, dogs are still beaten, hung, electrocuted, and treated brutally by farmers and butchers. Also, dogs and cats are still being beaten and boiled alive for so-called elixirs, which do not have medical properties except in the minds of ignorant and gullible customers.
These practices have no place in the modern world. Other Asian countries have banned the eating of dog meat and the cruel industry that goes with it, such as Taiwan and the Philippines. Why does Korea persist in lagging behind these countries and other civilized societies?
It’s the responsibility of the Korean government to once and for all end the cruel dog meat and cat medicine industries in Korea. It is time to dismiss the childish myths and propaganda surrounding these industries and their vile products. It is time to leave behind backward and unnecessary traditions.
And it is time for Korea to start taking animal welfare seriously and show that it does have a compassionate and ethical society. That means it is time for the Korean government to better educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, not abandoning pets, and properly treating animals.
Until these things are done, Korea’s reputation in the international community will continue to suffer. Its citizens will continue to face shame and embarrassment. And Korea will continue to be regarded as the “third world” despite its modernization and attempts at globalized thinking.
Therefore, I ask that you do all in your power to stop this barbarism and cruelty immediately.

Je suis extrêmement bouleversé par la torture et la consommation d’animaux de compagnie en Corée du Sud.
Avec l’omniprésence des réseaux sociaux, nous voyons chaque jour des images et des vidéos choquantes et déchirantes de chiens innocents torturés et tués dans votre pays.
Même si la Corée a établi une loi sur la protection des animaux pour les animaux de compagnie, les chiens sont toujours battus, pendus, électrocutés et traités brutalement par les agriculteurs et les abatteurs. En outre, les chiens et les chats sont toujours battus et bouillis vifs pour des soi-disant élixirs, qui n’ont pas de propriétés médicales, sauf dans l’esprit des clients ignorants et crédules.
Ces pratiques n’ont pas leur place dans le monde moderne. D’autres pays asiatiques ont interdit la consommation de viande de chien et l’industrie cruelle qui va avec, comme Taiwan et les Philippines. Pourquoi la Corée persiste-t-elle à être à la traîne de ces pays et d’autres sociétés civilisées?
Il est de la responsabilité du gouvernement coréen de mettre fin une fois pour toutes aux industries cruelles de la viande de chien et de la médecine pour chats en Corée. Il est temps de rejeter les mythes enfantins et la propagande entourant ces industries et leurs produits ignobles. Il est temps de quitter les traditions arriérées et inutiles.
Et il est temps pour la Corée de commencer à prendre au sérieux le bien-être animal et de montrer qu’elle a vraiment une société compatissante et éthique. Cela signifie qu’il est temps que le gouvernement coréen commence à mieux éduquer le public sur l’importance de la stérilisation et de la stérilisation, de ne pas abandonner les animaux de compagnie et de traiter les animaux de manière appropriée.

There is no act so vile as that of animal cruelty. Animals are completely at the mercy of mankind and they are shown little of that.
Our horrendous disregard for the wellbeing of animals presupposes that their lives are somehow less valuable than our own. We seem to be under the misguided belief that we are the superior species and that for some reason it gives us the right to capture, use, torture & kill animals how we see fit. We see examples of this horrendous cruelty in the meat & dairy industry, the fashion industry, the entertainment industry and, of course, in scientific research just to name a few. Considering that no other species on earth has done as much damage to this planet and every living creature on it than our own, one could argue that far from being the superior species, the human race is actually quite the opposite. Our ungodly behaviour thus far has been absolutely disgraceful.
How can we have the nerve to call ourselves a civilised society if we continue to condone this horrific treatment animals?
Anyone with companion animals can attest that animals possess a wealth of emotions much like our own. Just as they feel love & happiness, they most certainly have the capacity to feel depression, fear and pain. For this very reason animals should not be treated as commodities to use, torture or murder at will.
It’s time the laws reflected that.
