Sharing for Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE)/Watchdog

This is an update from the Watchdog’s raid of a slaughterhouse in Busan, Gijang-gun(county). 👉 Click HERE to see the previous post.

Before we ascertained that it was indeed a slaughterhouse, we navigated the dark and shadowy exterior, searching for signs of life. The dogs’ utter stillness, stemming from fear, made it difficult for us to determine the true nature of the establishment from the outside. Yet, as we approached, a subtle groan escaped the Samoyed, a sound too faint for the owner to hear but loud enough for us to identify his presence. As we broke into the facility, the Samoyed rose to his feet and gazed at us with pleading eyes, imploring us to open his cage.

We estimate that this clever Samoyed is a year old, with a mix of Samoyed and Akita in his genes. Unfortunately, the prolonged suffering he endured in captivity has taken a severe toll on the Samoyed’s health. Like the Golden Retriever we have rescued, he is also suffering from heartworm disease. He has yet to be neutered and will require a significant amount of time and resources to be fully rehabilitated and ready for adoption.

We presume that he is struggling with a bacterial eye infection that has caused severe eye discharge; the state of his eyes, barely able to open, is a clear indication of the squalor in which he had been confined for a long time. He requires immediate medical attention.

🔥긴급모금🔥 2.사모예드 편 ‼️
“저희 여기 있어요❗️” 도살장에 개들이 있다는 것을 조용히 알려준 사모예드 Dai가 눈을 잘 뜨지 못합니다.”
도살장의 모든 개들은 어디선가 끌려온 개들이었습니다. 주로 개농장에서 사육되다 끌려 왔겠지만 골든리트리버와 사모예드는 누군가의 반려견이 분명했습니다.
급습 후 알게 된 사실은 이곳은 개농장이 아닌 도살만 전문으로 하는 곳이라는 것, 결국 끌려와 철장에 갇힌 개들은 그날 모두 도살될 개들이었습니다. 자신의 차례가 올 것이란 것을 예상한 듯 모두 극도의 공포로 인한 숨죽임 속에 순서를 기다리던 중이었습니다. 개들의 예민한 청각으로 와치독들의 접근 소리를 들었겠지만 철장 바닥에 납작 엎드린 채 아무도, 정말 아무도 소리를 내지 않았습니다. 담장 안에 개가 없다고 생각할 수밖에 없는 상황. 그러나 사모예드는 달랐습니다.
와치독의 발소리를 들은 것입니다. 그리고 그들이 어떤 사람들이란 것을 직감적으로 안 것 같습니다. 담장 안으로 올라간 와치독과 눈이 마주친 순간. 나지막한 소리로 ‘끙끙.. 쉭쉭’ 거려댔습니다. 영리한 녀석은 크게 짖지 않았습니다. 마치 “ 저, 여기 있어요….. 꺼내 주세요” 하는 듯 애원하는 소리를 내고 있었습니다.
와치독이 경찰 출동을 요청해 함께 현장을 덮쳤고 빠르게 현장 도살의 증거들을 채집한 후 사모예드에게 다시 갔을 때 사모예드는 반가움에 일어나 철장 문을 열어 달라는 행동을 보였습니다. 목에는 붉은 목걸이가 채워져 있었고 온몸의 털은 집에서 정성껏 가위로 숱을 골라준 흔적이 있었습니다.
구출한 후 정밀 검사를 받은 사모예드는 한 살이 조금 넘은 아직 어린 나이. 초초대형 사모예드로 아키다 혈통이 섞인 것으로 보입니다. 그래도 영양실조가 심각한, 함께 구조된 골든리트리버와 도살장 옆 칸에 있었다고 상냥하게 대합니다. 사모예드도 심장사상충에 걸려 있습니다. 중성화 수술도 되지 않았고 입양을 가려면 또 많은 시간과 노력이 필요합니다.
두 눈은 잘 뜨지 못합니다. 더러운 환경에 오래 방치되어 있어서 걸릴 수 있는 세균성 질환일 수 있다고 합니다. 눈에서 진물이 흘러 눈이 마치 팬더곰처럼 되어 버렸습니다. 시간이 갈수록 눈을 못 뜨고 있어 치료가 필요합니다.
덩치 큰 착한 사모예드는 켄넬 문이 열리면 얼른 들어가 얌전히 앉아 있습니다. 이러한 교육을 받은 것이겠지요…..
